Roe deer and chamois hunting

Classic roebuck stalking from lowland fields to mountain clearings, and physically demanding chamois hunting on steep, rocky Dinaric terrain.

Roe deer are widespread throughout Croatia, from lowland farmland to mountain forest, which makes them one of the most accessible species in our portfolio. The roebuck season runs from 16 April to 30 September, and the rut typically falls in late July and early August.

Stalking during the rut, when bucks are exceptionally active and territorial, is among the most exciting forms of lowland stalking. Hunters can call bucks in close using a buck call or a decoy, creating shot opportunities at under 100 metres in open ground. High seat hunting at dusk and dawn is equally effective outside the rut.

We offer roe deer hunting across a range of habitats, from open arable fields and forest edges in Slavonia and the Zagorje hills to mountain clearings in the Dinarides. Trophy quality varies by region, with mountain bucks carrying heavier beam diameter and better mass.

The Eurasian chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) is present in Croatia’s Dinaric mountain ranges, particularly on Velebit and the surrounding areas. Chamois hunting runs from 1 October to 31 January.

Chamois hunting is among the most physically demanding we offer: it calls for good fitness, sure footing on steep rocky ground and tolerance of cold, changeable mountain weather. In return, hunters are rewarded with some of the most spectacular scenery in the country and the particular satisfaction of taking game in wild, remote terrain. Shots are typically taken at medium range from a stalk, after careful reading of the ground and the wind.

Accommodation for chamois hunts is arranged in mountain lodges and hotels in the relevant hunting areas, with access to warm, well-appointed facilities after long days in the field.
